Circle of Security® Classroom:
Circle of Security® Classroom
The past few years have seen an unprecedented rise in anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation among children. This has placed an added burden on parents, schoolteachers and staff, who are now expected to fulfill the roles of both educators and behavioral counselors. At Birch Therapy, we're excited to offer an evidence-informed solution to address this pressing need within schools, churches, parent groups and other youth-serving organizations, called Circle of Security Classroom.
The Program:
The COS-Classroom program spans nine weeks, with weekly 90-minute sessions designed to equip teachers with practical skills and insights in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Why Early Childhood Matters:
As Circle of Security International emphasizes, early childhood is a critical period for development. The COSC Approach integrates extensive research in attachment and developmental psychology. Children learn within the context of relationships, and secure attachment to early care providers significantly impacts children’s school readiness and learning.
Testimonials from COS-Classroom Teachers:
- "I found the COS-Classroom program invaluable in refreshing my understanding of how to emotionally support young children and their families."*
- "This program gave me a better understanding of dealing with children's emotions and needs."*
- "It reinforced my desire to provide intentional interaction and respect to all students."*
Integration with COS-Parenting:
Our COS-Classroom and COS-Parenting programs can be implemented independently or in tandem. By offering these programs to both parents and teachers, we establish a common language and shared goals, fostering a healthier school community and reducing the burden on administration to address behavioral issues.
