MY WHY
From an early age, I have always surrounded myself with an eclectic group of friends, finding enjoyment in learning about others who come from different backgrounds and seeing how this has helped me in return learn more about myself. The importance of acceptance was taught to me at an early age by two parents who themselves worked within the mental health and special education fields. In doing so, I have come to believe that each and every person I meet is like an unwrapped present. Just as we learn what joys a gift may bring as we untie the bow and gently pull off the beautiful wrapping, we also learn more about each individual as we take the time to see who they truly are at their core.
Jump ahead into my adulthood...Probably the most significant professional impact for me came in my previous place of employment where I supported individuals with neurodivergence. It was at this time that I realized the importance of having professionals who utilize a specialized approach to each family's unique circumstances. This knowledge has been central to my work in social work, where my daily mission is to empower all people, while focusing on the dignity and worth of every person.
My style
Erin works from a family-centered approach, based upon the belief that the most effective way to ensure safety, permanency, and well-being is to provide services that engage, involve, strengthen, and support families as a whole. She enjoys using a variety of modalities to best meet the preferences of her clients, including mindfulness, motivational interviewing, DBT, CBT, as well as TF-CBT. Erin has also found great value in the use of therapeutic enhancements such as play, art, and sand tray, which can be both effective and enjoyable ways to connect with youth.
Currently, Erin resides in Southern Wake County with her husband and two teenage daughters (ages 15 and 18), as well as two dogs and a cat who keep life even more interesting. When she is not working, Erin enjoys practicing her own mindfulness through holistic cooking and exercise, as well as making time for hobbies that include knitting and music.
